Edit Access in Google Sheets

Google sheets is a new era database preparation tool that can be shared by the owner to different people. However to maintain the supremacy of ownership of sheet, it has provided with various options provided to people with whom the spreadsheet is shared.

By viewer option, they can only have a look of the spreadsheet. With commentor option, they can also put their comments and suggestions regarding anything the sheet. But with editor option, they can even make changes to the content of a spreadsheet that is prepared and owned by sharer.

But a person can be an editor of a spreadsheet only when the access to perform edit is given to him/her by the owner. So just have look at how this access is requested, given, etc.

Requesting Edit Access

  1. When you open spreadsheet with only having viewer rights, click on view only button.
  2. From pop-up select request edit option.
  3. You can also send a message if you want and then select send.

Granting Edit Access

  1. Click on the share button at top right corner.
  2. In the pop-up box, enter the e-mail address of people you want to give edit access to.
  3. Just on the right side of this address line is a tab from where you need to select the option of Editor.
  4. Also, if you want people to get notified about the same, check the notify option.
  5. Now, click on send.

Removing the Edit Access

  1. Click on Share button at top right corner.
  2. Click on drop down menu of the tab adjacent to e-mail box line.
  3. From here, click on remove option.
  4. Or if you want to prevent the person from editing but want them to remain as viewer or commentor, you can select the appropriate option.

5. And now click on save.
