How to Create Hyperlinks In Google Sheets


As we all know hyperlinks are links that take us to a page or website in seconds. Such hyperlinks can also be inserted in google spreadsheets so that whenever you want to want to see that specific data present on a specific web page or site, you can quickly have access to it through your spreadsheet. There are various ways to perform this task and we will learn them all through this article.

How to Add Hyperlinks in Google Sheets

  • Using Insert Menu
  1. Select the cell where you want to insert the link
  2. From the menu, bar click on the Insert tab.
  3. Now from the further pop-up menu, click on the link option.
  4. Now, a dialog box will appear. In the provided space, enter the link.
  5. And then click on Apply.

Another short way to do this task is by doing it through a short-cut key Ctrl + K which will immediately open the above-stated dialog box. Now, you will just have to enter the URL and click Apply.

  • Using Hyperlink Formula

The syntax for this formula is

=HYPERLINK("URL", "link_label"), here

URL, will be the URL of that specific link that you would like to insert as a hyperlink in your google sheet.

link_label will be the name or text that you would want to use in the cell. For example, if you want to add a link to the homepage of every social media site that you have mentioned in your sheet, like say Google, then you can insert “Google” as the link_label and when you will click on it, it will take you to the homepage of Google.

Creating Hyperlink To a Sheet In the Same Google Sheet Document

Through this, the link of another sheet which you may want to refer often during working on yhe existing sheet can also be inserted. For this –

  • Select the cell where you want to insert the link
  • From the menu bar click on the Insert tab.
  • Now from the further pop-up menu, click on the link option.
  • From the dialog box, select the ‘Sheets in this spreadsheet’ option.
  • Further, select the sheet for which you want to create a hyperlink.

  • And then click on Apply.

Hyperlink for a range of cells

In your long spreadsheet, you can easily get back to your most important range of cells by just creating a hyperlink for the same and clicking it for this purpose. To perform this task –

  1. Select the cell where you want to insert the link
  2. From the menu, bar click on the Insert tab.
  3. Now from the further pop-up menu, click on the link option.
  4. From the dialog box, select ‘Select a range of cells to link’ option.
  5. Further, specify the range in which you want to create a hyperlink.
  6. And click on Apply.
